Together, we will embark on a 2-hour adventure tour through the Olympic Park and the 1972 Olympic Village, discussing Munich’s plans to bid for the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Olympics. What is the current status of the bid? What are the opportunities for the city? What hurdles need to be overcome? Will the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Munich do without new superlatives, so that the Games suit us perfectly in true Munich style? What is planned and who is actually paying for it? Experience a tour with a vision that brings the impressive history of the 1972 Olympic Games and today’s Olympic Park to life in an informative and convivial way, focusing on the plans for 20xx. Eine Stadtführung mit Weitblick
Am 26. Oktober 2025 haben die Münchnerinnen und Münchner in einem Referendum mit rund 66% für „Ja“ gestimmt. Heisst: die Mehrheit der Bürgerinnen und Bürger stimmte für eine Bewerbung der Landeshauptstadt München um die Olympischen und Paralympischen Spiele 2036, 2040 oder 2044. Damit ist der Weg frei für eine nationale Bewerbung. Im Herbst 2026 entschiedet der Deutsche Olympische Sportbund, mit welcher Stadt oder Region Deutschland in die internationale Bewerbung geht. Es wird also noch viel passieren – und spannend bleibt es allemal.
Auf dieser Tour beschäftigen wir uns mit dem Jetzt und der Zukunft Münchens. Ungewöhnlich, denn meistens erfährt man in Stadtführungen v.a. viel aus der vergangenen Geschichte einer Stadt, stimmt’s? Wir blicken schon ab und an auch auf 1972, aber primär sprechen wir bei diesem Spaziergang durch das Olympiadorf und den Olympiapark über München’s Pläne bis 2036, 2040 oder 2044 und über München’s Rolle als internationaler Gastgeber, wenn die Bewerbung um die Olympischen und Paralympischen Spiele erfolgreich ist. Vier Wochen wäre die Welt dann zu Gast in der bayerischen Landeshauptstadt – und in Deutschland. Was bedeutet das für München, für Bayern und für Deutschland? Wir sprechen auf dieser Tour tagesaktuell über die Pläne München’s, über den aktuellen Bewerbungsstand, über Mitbewerber und natürlich, wie Olympia hier bei uns aussehen soll und kann. Diese Tour ist ein Dialog, wir sprechen gemeinsam über Chancen und Aufgaben, Sportstätten, Wirtschaft, Infrastrukturmaßnahmen, Breitensport und vieles mehr. Ihr könnt eure Fragen stellen. Egal, ob ihr zu Pro oder Contra tendiert, bei dieser Tour sind alle Meinungen willkommen und wir werden über Fakten sprechen – gut gewürzt mit allerlei Anekdoten, sodass Tagespolitik Spaß macht.
Wir sprechen auch über die Olympische Bewegung und das IOC. Denn auch hier schaut man in die Zukunft und geht mit der Zeit. Wusstet ihr zum Beispiel, dass sich das IOC mit der Agenda 2020+5 selbst reformiert? Bewerbungskosten sollen sinken, Infrastruktur nachhaltiger genutzt und die Spiele stärker an den Austragungsort angepasst werden. Und dass das potentielle Münchner Olympische Dorf so oder so gebaut werden soll: als modernes Wohnquartier im Münchner Nord Osten – so steht es im Stadtentwicklungsplan STEP2040.
A tour with a vision for the future
On October 26, 2025, Munich residents voted “yes” in a referendum with around 66% in favor. This means that the majority of citizens voted in favor of the federal state capital Munich bidding for the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This clears the way for a national bid. In fall 2026, the Deutsche Olympische Sportbund (= German Olympic Sports Confederation) will decide which city or region Germany will enter into the international bid. So there is still a lot to happen—and it remains exciting.
On this tour, we focus on Munich’s present and future. This is unusual, because city tours usually focus on a city’s past history, right? We will take a look at 1972 from time to time, but primarily we will talk about Munich’s plans for 2036, 2040, or 2044 and Munich’s role as an international host if its bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games is successful. For four weeks, the world would then be a guest in the Bavarian capital—and in Germany. What does that mean for Munich, for Bavaria, and for Germany? On this tour, we will talk about Munich’s plans, the current status of the bid, competitors, and, of course, what the Olympics should and could look like here. This tour is a dialogue; we will talk together about opportunities and challenges, sports facilities, the economy, infrastructure measures, popular sports, and much more. You can ask your questions. Whether you are for or against, all opinions are welcome on this tour, and we will talk about facts – spiced up with all kinds of anecdotes to make daily politics fun.
We also talk about the Olympic Movement and the IOC. Because here, too, people are looking to the future and moving with the times. Did you know, for example, that the IOC is reforming itself with Agenda 2020+5? Application costs are to be reduced, infrastructure used more sustainably, and the Games adapted more closely to the host city. And that the potential Munich Olympic Village is to be built either way: as a modern residential area in northeast Munich—as stated in the STEP2040, the urban development plan.

In den Sommerwochen 2025 habe ich mich mit den Fakten rund um die Olympiaidee beschäftigt. Denn allein von Plakaten, Social Media und Medienberichten kann man sich doch nicht leiten lassen. All das Wissen um das Bewerbungskonzept, den Stadtentwicklungsplan und die Olympic Agenda und die „Wie-geht’s-nun-weiter“-Informationen plus spannende als auch lustige Geschichten möchte ich euch weitergeben, damit ihr ohne endloses Lesen informiert seid.

I want to share with you everything I know about the bid concept, the urban development plan, the Olympic Agenda, and the “what happens next” information, plus exciting and funny stories, so that you can stay informed without having to read endless articles.
